This Mishnaic ruling applies only where the robber was a heathen,<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' In which case the person robbed might be afraid to force him to pay. ');">²¹</span> but in the case of a robber who was an Israelite this would not be so, as the proprietor surely thinks: [If not to-day to-morrow] I will take him to law.<span class="x" onmousemove="('comment',' And thus never gives up hope of recovering the misappropriated article. ');">²²</span>
